# How to Calculate Number of Bricks, Cement and Sand for Brickwork?

## Calculation of Brickwork

Total Brickwork = Length x Breadth x Height

= 1  x  1  x  1 = 1 m3

Let us assume, the thickness of Mortar = 10 mm

& Standard size of Brick = 190 mm  90 mm  90 mm

OR = 0.19 m  x  0.09 m  0.09 m Volume of 1 Brick (Without Mortar) = 0.19 m  x  0.09 m  0.09 m = 0.001539 m3

Volume of 1 Brick (With Mortar)      = 0.20 m  x  0.1 m  x  0.1 m = 0.002 m3 Now, Quantity of Mortar = Volume pf Wall – [ Volume of 1 Brick (Without Mortar)  x  Total Number of Bricks ]

= 1 – [ 0.001539  x  500 ]

= 1 – 0.7695 = 0.2305 m3

NOTE → Above quantity of mortar is in a wet condition. For dry volume of mortar, we need to multiply 33% as bulkage of sand.

∴ Dry Volume of Mortar = 0.203 m x  1.33 = 0.306565 m3

As we know, Mortar Ration is 1 : 6    (1 Part Cement & 6 Part Sand = Total 7 Part)

&  Density of Cement = 1440 kg.

NOTE → Required amount of cement quantity in brickwork is in m3but we need in kg. So, we multiply 1440 kg density of cement to calculate cement quantity in kg.

• Total Number of Bricks = 500 Numbers
• Quantity of Cement = 63 kg or 1.26 bags
• Quantity of Sand = 0.263 m3
